Derek Peckham, DO

Coming from a family of dentists might have been the obvious career path for Derek Peckham, DO. However, the idea of looking into peoples’ mouths for the rest of his life didn’t seem very interesting. Instead, he decided to become a physician. Dr. Peckham chose family medicine as his specialty because it gives him the ability to work in many different environments, from clinics to the hospital. Plus, he likes that he can form long-term relationships with his patients.

Dr. Peckham grew up in Hays, Kansas, and attended Fort Hays State University where he received his Bachelor of Science in Biology. He obtained his Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine from A.T. Still University of Health Sciences Kirksville School of Osteopathic Medicine in Missouri. Most of Dr. Peckham’s family lives in Lincoln which made doing his residency at Lincoln Family Medicine Residency Program an added bonus. He feels LFMP is a great program and fit given he wanted to come back and practice close to the people he cares about. After residency, Dr. Peckham would like to practice in the Lincoln area or in a rural part of Nebraska or Kansas.

One piece of advice he likes to give his patients is that improving their health can be challenging and there will probably be setbacks, but to stay positive and only worry about the things they can control.

Dr. Peckham enjoys cooking and trying new recipes, playing video games, hunting, and weightlifting.
