Isaac Mattis, DO
Isaac Mattis, DO, knew he wanted to be a doctor from when he was in the 3rd grade growing up in Gallatin, Missouri. His father taught him about working hard and helping others whenever possible, qualities he hopes others see in him as a physician.
Dr. Mattis received his Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri. He obtained his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from A.T. Still University of Health Sciences Kirksville School of Osteopathic Medicine in Missouri. He specializes in family medicine because it offers a broad range of medical problem solving, allows him to decide where he wants to practice geographically, and gives him the opportunity to develop long-lasting relationships with patients. Dr. Mattis likes the fact that the Lincoln Family Medicine Residency Program has great faculty, residents, and attendings, gives him plenty of opportunities to gain experience in a wide variety of specialties and offers an environment that is very family-friendly.
When it comes to caring for his patients, Dr. Mattis tells them to “speak freely and honestly, and know that physicians don’t judge, and it won’t change how they treat or think of you. Doctors went into medicine to help everyone, not just those that agree or think the same as they do.” After residency, Dr. Mattis would like to practice in a rural, underserved area and do as many procedures to help reduce excessive medical appointments for his patients. Dr. Mattis and his wife both love helping others whenever they can.
Dr. Mattis married his junior high sweetheart and they have a 2-year-old daughter and are expecting a second child in August. He enjoys spending time with family and friends, fishing, hunting, and engaging in all types of sports and games – anything outside and competitive. Fun fact: Dr. Mattis as well as his wife were both pole vault and javelin throwers in college!
